The Thoughts Of Jamie Beckwith

Sunday, 6 August 2006

So here it is: "Inside the mind of Jamie Beckwith" or "The thoughts of Jamie Beckwith" whatever you want to call it. Whichever you prefer, this is the my first post on this online rag; a meeting place for a group of friends that all revolve around, all have one thing in common...Shaun Poteracki.

I'm not going to talk about Shavo, aka Picto, (just type Shaun's name in T9 mode in a text message and you will know what I'm talking about if you don't know already) or how much money we spend on him, feeding him, driving him, covering for him, whatever. Instead, I'm going to cover something this week that already has a place on this site. Movies. I will not however "review" movies, just discuss them, in a different way.

I watched two movies this week. One at the theatre, one at home on video. I watch a few movies a week, no big deal right? This week was different however, and different is the key word here. Both of these movies were unlike any other movie I have seen before. Both highly unique in their own way, yet entertaining and awesome and thought provoking, and, and, and....

This week Netflix sent me a surprisingly good nugget of a movie, that I am still enjoying in my thoughts days later. I will take a quote from my myspace blog to sum it up:

"Have  you seen V for Vendetta?

Comic book fans, political anarchists and thriller junkies alike will all find something desireable about this film. If any of those three descriptors rest in your mind, you must see V for Vendetta if you haven't already.

I thought it was excellent, and Internet Movie Database (IMDb) agrees making it number 148 on their top 250 movies of all time list.

Give this movie a shot. It's probably not for everyone, but I promise that everyone will not be dissapointed. Let me know what you think...."

In the theatre this week, Lady in the Water. Although a little far out there, (100% fiction) it was surprisingly better than expected, leaving me slightly confused (in a good way) when I left the theatre, but overall really good, very Shyamalan-esque film.

Are either of these films for everyone? No, definately, definately not. If you don't like to think, if you don't feel like you catch subtle nuances in films, if you don't venture into the strange, go see Miami Vice or Superman or some mediocre remake action film like the aforementioned, and live your life only slightly satisfied. Or, you could give either of these films a shot, provoke some thoughts in your simple mind, and experience something delightfully different for once.

Send a custom message to your friends with V's voice (played by Hugo Weaving, aka 'Agent Smith' from The Matrix.

 Until next time.
